Arriving by Train
If you arrive in Edinburgh by train, you can either take a bus or a taxi out to Heriot-Watt. From Haymarket Station you can take the Lothian Bus number 25 directly to campus, from Waverley Stations you can take the Lothian Bus number 25, 34, or 45. For more details, please see the sections below.
Arriving by Plane
If you arrive in Edinburgh by plane, the easiest way is to take a taxi directly from the airport to the Heriot-Watt Campus. Edinburgh Airport has Taxi ranks outside which you should be able to find by following the signs. Please see the information below for more details.
If you hail a taxi anywhere in town, you should be able to ask them to take you to Heriot-Watt University. Haymarket Stations, Waverley Station and the Edinburgh Airport all have taxi ranks outside. Once on the Riccarton campus ask the taxi to drive to Gait 2 (signposted) and drop you off at the Earl Mountbatten Building.
After turning into Gait 2 the taxi must turn left (again) immediately to enter car park N (which is one-way and lies in between Gait 1 and Gait 2). The entrance to the Earl Mountbatten Building is opposite the centre of this car park, with a red awning.
Go up the 1st set of stairs to the 1st floor and Mike Chantler’s office is a little way along the east corridor in room EM1.39. The Strategic Futures Laboratory is located opposite in room EM1.55. You should find signage which will direct you along the correct corridor!
To get to us by bus, you can take any of the Lothian Buses numbered 25, 34, and 45 from the center of Edinburgh going towards Riccarton. We would recommend avoiding the 45, however, as it takes much longer than either the 25, or 34 to reach us.
All of Lothian Buses number 25, 34, and 45 stop at the Heriot-Watt’s main reception. From there you can ask for more directions, or use the campus map to find us!
Finally, if you are driving to us, you'll find us on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Our campus is easy to access by car from the centre of Edinburgh and from all major routes leading to the city. The University is half a mile from the Calder Junction of the A720 City of Edinburgh by-pass and the A71, and you’ll see signs for Heriot-Watt University on your approach.
There is free parking on campus when you arrive, and vistors should used signed car parks A, B, or I. We'd recommend using car park I as it is the closest to our laboratory!
